ISO45001

Who is responsible for ISO 45001?

The committee is composed of 69 full members (including SAC of China National Standardization Committee and relevant institutions of the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and France) and 16 observer members. Representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and other organizations also participated in the discussion of standards.

Origin of ISO 45001?

The latest estimates from the International Labour Organization show that about 630 people die every day from work activities, an astonishing 2.3 million a year, and 300 million other work-related injuries each year. These not only have a serious impact on employees and their families, but also greatly increase the burden of enterprises. These burdens include staff absence, early retirement, increased insurance costs and so on.

Although many occupational health and safety documents can be used for supervision and voluntary use, ISO has never issued international standards in this field before. In 2013, ISO/PC 283 began to draft ISO 45001 after referring to BS OHSAS 18001, ILO-OSH 2001 and other documents.

ISO 45001 does not intend to replace, add or change any statutory texts or organizational legal requirements. It will help enterprises provide a safer and healthier working environment for employees and staff in their workplace, prevent death, injury and health problems, and strive to continuously improve occupational health and safety performance.

Which organizations does ISO 45001 apply to?

All organizations.

Whether your organization is a high-risk large enterprise, a low-risk small company, a non-profit organization, a charity, an academic research institution, or a government department, as long as your organization has staff working for it or is affected by its activities, you can adopt a systematic approach to the management of occupational health. Health and safety.

What are the benefits of applying ISO 45001 to you?

ISO 45001 can help organizations improve occupational health and safety performance and ensure safe workplaces for employees. Such as:

Enhancing Ability to Comply with Laws and Regulations

Reducing the Total Cost of Accident Events

Reduce downtime and production interruption costs

Reducing insurance costs

Reduce missed work and employee turnover

Accreditation of International Occupational Health and Safety Management Level

How to apply ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 can be applied in the following ways:

Establishment and implementation of occupational health and safety policies and objectives

Establish a systematic management process by understanding the organization's environment, risks and opportunities that need to be addressed

Hazard source identification, risk assessment and necessary control measures

Improving the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Ability of Personnel

Evaluate occupational health and safety performance, find opportunities for improvement and implement them

Ensuring that workers play an active role in occupational health and safety matters

When will ISO 45001 be officially released?

ISO 45001 has entered the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) voting stage at the end of November 2017. If the voting goes smoothly, it is expected to be officially released as early as March 2018.

The relationship between ISO 45001 and other standards?

ISO 45001 and other ISO management system standards, such as ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System), adopt a high-level structure. Other international standards, such as OHSAS 18001, International Labour Organization Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health, National Standards, International Labour Standards and Conventions, have been taken into account in the formulation of standards.

It is precisely because the integration with other standards has been considered in advance. When ISO 45001 is released, we can find that it is consistent with those standards, guidelines and conventions and requirements. If you have established the occupational health and safety management system now, it will be relatively easy to switch to ISO 45001 in the future. At the same time, it will also facilitate the organization to integrate the occupational health and safety management requirements into the overall management process.
