General Product Safety
The European Commission issued the 2001/95/EC Directive (General Product Safety Directive) standard.
On 22 July 2006, the European Commission issued the standard list of Directive 2001/95/EC (General Product Safety Directive), replacing all official standard lists previously published. The relevant standards were formulated by the European Organization for Standardization in accordance with the Directive of the European Commission, involving sports equipment, children's wear, nipples, lighters, bicycles and furniture (bags). Including folding bed and other products.
According to the general product safety directive, the manufacturer has the responsibility to ensure that all products sold in the market are safe. This provision applies to all products sold in the market or to all products supplied to consumers in other ways.
The relevant authorities or courts (in case of dispute) must determine whether the product is safe on the basis of the following factors:·
- Product characteristics, including composition, packaging, and assembly, installation and maintenance instructions;
- Appearance, including labels, any warnings or instructions on use or disposal, and any other instructions or information (e.g. manufacturer's information);
- The category of consumers (children or elderly) whose products may be dangerous to them.
The manufacturer must assume responsibility for ensuring the safety and reliability of the products supplied and sold in the market, such as providing information and warnings. In addition, if the product may cause danger, the manufacturer must take appropriate actions, such as withdrawing the product from the market, giving sufficient or effective warning to the consumer, or withdrawing the product from the consumer.
